Mutual exchange is a scheme that allows social housing tenants to permanently swap homes with each other. It is an alternative to waiting for a standard housing transfer, and provides the opportunity for tenants relocate for work, move closer to family, or upsize or downsize.
Over the last few years, we have used the House Exchange platform. However, House Exchange is closing and from 1 August, all tenants will use HomeSwapper to search for and manage mutual exchanges.
HomeSwapper is widely used across the social housing sector and gives you access to thousands of potential swaps across the country. It is similar to House Exchange as it’s an online platform accessed via their website. You can visit HomeSwapper here.
If you previously registered with House Exchange, you will need to re‑register with HomeSwapper. Registration is free and only takes a few minutes. Please note all registrations need to be approved, so it may take a little while from submitting your registration to accessing your account.
For more information, we’ve created some FAQs, which can be access here and you can visit our dedicated Mutual Exchange page of the website here.
There’s also a library of support and useful guidance from HomeSwapper, which can be found here.
Whether you’re re-registering, or would like to register for the first time, we’re here to help. If you have any questions, please ask - call contact centre on 01508 532000 or email [email protected].
You can also speak with your neighbourhood officer.
