This week is Volunteers week which here at Saffron we are really passionate about. That’s why last year we launched a Charities and Volunteering strategy. As part of this we agreed to support selected charities which include Break and the Benjamin Foundation. To raise money for these charities our staff took part and fundraised in lots of events such as
- A Firewalk raising £520 for Break.
- The Sleep Out raising £716 for the Benjamin Foundation!
This has enabled us to support these charities which in turn provide much needed help in our communities.
Not only this but we became sponsors of the Benjamin Foundations Flight for Youth campaign which celebrates their 25th anniversary. This was shared amongst some of our tenants in one of the specialised scheme, The Meadows. We took along some of the unpainted ceramic butterflies to their craft afternoon and set tenants the task to get creative and paint the butterflies however they wanted to. It brought a lot of fun and enjoyment to the group and even those who wouldn’t normally get involved in activities gave it a go which was great to see.
Another part of the strategy was giving every staff member a volunteering day which they could use doing whatever they wanted. It has been great to see so many people get involved. Within the 8 months of 2018 38 staff members used their volunteering day and so far in 2019 17 staff members have used their volunteering day. How staff have used their day has hugely varied from helping out in charity shops, a spot of gardening at Weavers Court and a litter pick around Long Stratton.
