Friday 1st September is Starts at Home day, celebrating a campaign led by the National Housing Federation. This was launched last year with the aim of ensuring that people who need extra support will always have a safe home that meets their needs. This is achieved through supported housing which provides secure homes and vital services to a range of people in communities across the country.
We recently visited some of our supported housing tenants who couldn’t praise their scheme enough. One year ago, Rita had moved from Diss to a home closer to Norwich, she said that moving into supported housing was ‘The best thing that have ever happened.’
Rita’s neighbour Sue, said, ‘I have been living here for 7 years and I’m still happy. The staff here are great, having someone chirpy and friendly every day is really nice.’
We were delighted to welcome David Orr, Chief Executive of National Housing Federation, and Sarah Finnegan, External Affairs Manager for East of England, visit one of our specialist housing schemes, The Meadows last week where Saffron has 92 supported flats. During their visit to The Meadows, within Bowthorpe Care Village; they were able to meet with tenants and see the fantastic facilities which include a hairdressing salon, a restaurant, cafe, a community shop, and GP services.
David Orr left the Meadows saying he had, ‘Really enjoyed visit to Bowthorpe Care Village. Proves that care #StartsAtHome.’
So let’s shows our support and shout about all the amazing work supported housing does by posting and tweeting with the hashtag #startsathome
